These coins were minted in Paris in 1875. On a faulty matrix, the engraver's privy mark (A.-D. Barre's anchor) had been placed upside down. As soon as the error was noticed, the coins batches were recalled and melted down. Some coins (several dozens or hundreds, the quantity is unknown) were nevertheless put into circulation.
This coin is therefore one of the few coins which escaped the vigilance of the controllers of the Paris Mint. It obviously circulated.
