    Description

WWII German Mauser Short Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog. Ricasso is marked "Aesculap" over a crown, over a scepter with a snake wrapped around it and on the reverse is "Aesculap-Werke Jetter & Scheerer Tuttlingen", a rare maker of bayonets (they stopped in 1941) and are known for making medical/surgical equipment. This bayonet is one of a few made with a split nut handle. Everything is tight with minor wear. The blade is unsharpened but is sharp, the tip is also sharp, a few nicks on the blade edge, a small spot of finish wear on each side at the blade edge, and the last 1/32" of the tip is bent. Lock button is functional. The black enameled scabbard is solid, two small dents. The leather frog shows typical wear with crazing throughout, stitching is tight but does look to have possible field stitching repairs. Leather washer is missing. Length of the blade measures 7 7/8" (15/16" wide x 3/16" thick spine), length of the bayonet is 12 9/16", overall in the scabbard it is 13 1/2", and the frog alone is 8 3/8".
