Victor Victrola Phonograph Leather Brake Pad& Governor Speed Control Repair Part
This Kit Includes: ONE 1/2" long piece of approximately 1/8" Diameter Leather Brake Pad Material.
(This 1/2" section is enough leather for at least two brakes or governor friction plate pads.)
NOTE: Sometimes for certain setups a slightly larger diameter than 1/8" may be necessary.
I can supply this, but please measure your brake before you order to help keep things simple.
This leather is used for brake pads and governor friction plate pads on Victor Talking Machines and Victrolas. It is also used on phonographs made by Columbia, Edison, Silvertone, Brunswick, Aeolian Vocalion and many others. The leather that Victor and other companies used was just like the leather I am selling and is cut from the thickest section of the hide.
Installation Hints: I must assume that you understand how to install a new brake or friction pad and only offer the following as a reminder of how to carefully proceed with the work. In most early phonographs the pads are held captive in a fork-like feature that grips around the leather. Removing the old pad is simply a matter of carefully tearing/cutting away the old remnants. Installing the new pad requires great care because the forked opening must be slightly spread open in order to receive the new leather. Once in place, the fork is then very gently clamped tight using a pair of pliers. You need a very steady hand and a just a little patience. I cannot tell you how many brake and friction pad holders I have repaired in the past for folks who rushed and broke something. Take your time and make sure you use a steady, patient hand.
