Offered here at no reserve is a genuine binnacle compass manufactured for the U.S. Navy in 1942. The brass compass is marked around the rim "U.S. NAVY BU. SHIPS 4-INCH BOAT COMPASS MARK I (N) 8938 1942 THE LIONEL CORPORATION, N.Y." The enameled white compass card is calibrated in 5 degree increments marked 0 through 35 with the notations N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW. This is a liquid-filled compass with very clean interior & no bubble. The compass is suspended in its gimbal ring with matching serial number, which is mounted in the copper binnacle housing with glazed viewing window and heavy cast brass bracket on the back. The binnacle is complete with its auxiliary oil lamp & reflector for night use. A knurled cap is for electrification. The hinged door has a functional sliding pin closure. The binnacle stands 9 inches tall by 9 inches wide and 9 inches deep. Pivoting brass handle for carrying. Compass & glass will be separated for safety in shipping, easily reinstalled.
