Back in the mid 60s, a Japanese company called, Star started producing
entry level drum kits. These, ‘stencil kits’ were mainly copies of
leading American, and International brands, and were sold
internationally as an affordable alternative. By the early 70s, Star
was starting to make a name for themselves, and that name was; TAMA.
Today, a world leader in professional drums, TAMA has had an excellent
history, and has produced some classic models over the years which have
stood the test of time. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for many
resonant bass drum heads, especially in the 70s. Initially introduced
with the, ‘straight T’ emblem on the left, the specific model was
identified beneath the main TAMA logo, each retaining the Star heritage,
i.e. Swing Star, and Royal Star. As later models were introduced, TAMA
eventually dropped the individual 'Straight T' logos, for a more
universal 'Slant T' version for all proceeding models, such as Artstar,
and Rockstar. For my, ‘Retrostar Collection’ I have extended the
'Straight T' logo line to include these later models, as well as
offering the original, 'Slant T' logo, as first introduced. Slant T
decals measure approximately 11” x 2.5”, while all straight T logos are
approximately 10.25” x 2.75”. This listing is for all TAMA logos in *BLACK* adhesive vinyl. White decals are available through a separate
listing.
I am a commercial, graphic artist, as well as a drummer, drum
collector, and restorer, and have decided to try and combine my skills
to reproduce some, harder to find, or otherwise unavailable logos for my
fellow drum enthusiasts. I've sold quite a few of these with positive
response. Decals work best on smooth, plastic heads, but also work on
coated heads, (or any, relatively smooth surface for that matter) -
recommend placing sheet of paper over decal after application, and
burnish with credit card or similar, to make sure all edges are adhered.
I hope to keep adding to my logo selection, so your support is
appreciated, and requests are welcome. Please see my other listings for
more, hard to find logos from Asia, Europe, and North America. Thanks
for looking.
