    Description

    Mint Condition, like new, with patina.  It is a Sestrel brand by Henry Browne & Sons (Type A) with a Kelvin & Hughes, Ltd. compass, made in Great Britain. Serial # 1653JE. We are surmising that this fully functional binnacle must have been a "display" model because there is no indication that it is anything but an aged "brand new" item and, there are no signs of the wood pedestal ever having been anchored to the deck of a wheelhouse. The oil lamp also shows no signs of ever being used; the wick is like new.We acquired it in the 1980's from a maritime collector and it has been displayed in our eclectic living room ever since.  It is 48"h & 24"w.  Weight is approximate.
