    Description

RARE Collection - 344 GREEK Hermes Heads PLUS speciality catalogs + Stock Book (only some pages shown in images).
This listing is part of a larger collection of stamps and philatelic items that I acquired through a friend who is a relative of the original owner. The original owner was Bill Tarlow, founder of Foot Joy Golf Shoes: https://www.massgolf.org/news/21-billtarlow-inmemoriam/ . The individual items of his collection were appraised (and not certified) by The Spellman Museum of Stamps and postal History, one of only two postal museums in the country.  I am very fortunate to live just down the road from the museum, and am a proud member, as well.
This is a one-of-a-kind offering! Everything you need to get started on collecting and learning all about GREECE HERMES HEADS
** 344 Hermes Heads in total - from F to VF, most are hinged and OG, some Bullseye cancellations, and everything in between.
** printings range from the 1862-67 Consecutive Athens issues through the 1880s issues on Cream Paper, including paper types and control number varieties.
** Condition is very mixed, and great for someone intent on assembling a reference collection. The Billigs handbook that accompanies this lot is an excellent guide for that purpose.
** The Scott catalogue value is between 00 and 00. Given the overall condition, and its appeal as a reference collection, with price range amounts of about {{detail_product_description}}.875 to .79 per stamp.
    ** Most from 1861-62, and 1862-1867, 1868, 1870, 1872, 1875, 1876 and 1880-82
** I took pictures and then flipped them all over to take pics of the backs.  When doing so, I discovered two pages that had hidden stamps in the front images. I marked the images showing where those stamps are in the Front and Back images. I do NOT want to take a whole other set of images, so if you really want to see the fronts of those hidden ones, just message me.
** I imagine there are plenty of a. and b. versions throughout and likely some even more rarities as well. I just do not have the patience or time to learn them all and to examine each one.
**this collection has both Figures on back and also no figures on back
** Paris Printings and Athens Printings too
** Various Watermarks throughout (Wmk. 129, Wmk. 252 at least)
** All kinds of paper types - too many for me to try and identify accurately.  How do people do this!?!?!?  Makes me dizzy trying to determine mesh or not etc...
** Catalog Values anywhere between {{detail_product_description}}.85 to .79and some -0 per stamp.
** The buy now price is a STEAL no matter how you slice and dice the contents of this collection.
** There are bound to be some 00+ specimens in this lot too. Who knows how many?!?
** Some have really wonderful bullseye cancellations
** Quality ranges from Lightly hinged to heavy hinged, Fine to Very Fine, even some never hinged ones might be in the mix.
** Billig's Specialized Catalogues Vol 4 - GREECE Large Hermes Heads by Spink - Truman (1949)
** Four-Part Series - GREECE - Collectors Club Philatelist. Translated by H.G Zervas. Annotated and brought up to date by Elias Silberstein and Robert O. Truman (943-1944)
** 24 page Harco Blue Ribbon Stock Book, with each page having its own protective sheet
GREECE postage stamps all from the 1800s, carefully arranged by color and shade, type, and issue dates in the color schemes.
What you see is what you get. NO RETURNS. SALE IS FINAL. The lot will be shipped 3-day priority with tracking and insurance.
This is a rare find and a really nice collection that has been put together with great care and attention to detail by Bill Tarlow.
