Pullman Palace Car Co. Conductor Lantern, 1880's, Original Etched Globe (PPC Co). I am selling a small collection of railroad lamps, and perhaps later this summer some other railroad related paraphernalia... This all came out of the same place - the Brunswick, MD Rail Shop, now run by CSX, but over the years it has had many railroads and companies come through it. A man who was an engineer there for over 35 years amassed quite a collection - much of his stuff is now gone, but I was fortunate enough to meet him several years ago, and through trading and bartering, picked up a couple of things. However, I am moving this summer, so need to downsize the collection to only those things I can't live without...One of those things that made that list for a long time was this PPC Co. conductor's lantern - I was always going to clean it up and put a lamp in it, but just liked it too much the way it was to ever change it... As I said - many railroads came through Brunswick, to include many small lines. This looks to have belonged to a conductor on a smaller line - makes sense, as the original nickel silver finish is worn through to the brass, when the top clip broke a workaround was created, and the conductor who carried this lamp likely wasn't thinking he was getting a new one any time soon... The globe is in great condition - only one small nick up at the top, no cracks, and thick glass - the etching is deep and clear, and easily read from a distance. The B&O, the C&O, Reading, PRR, WMRR, and others made their way through Brunswick on a daily basis, as did many smaller supporting lines. PPC Co was the name of the Pullman Car Company from about 1867 to 1897, with the Pullman Company officially coming into being in 1900 - so lamp/globe would date before the Pullman name change in 1900. Of the PPC lamps I have come across, most seem to originate in the 1880's for some reason.
I have a few other lanterns listed from the Brunswick shop, to include another Pullman conductor's lamp (with no globe)... Please take a look at the other listings - shipping can always be combined.
You only pay actual shipping - and this isn't a heavy item. So will likely use USPS Priority unless the buyer wants something else.
Please look at the photos and ask questions - I am front of the computer most of the week.
PS - I am leaving the country for several weeks on business starting 9 July - anything listed and not sold by that time will be ended. Just a heads up...
