Description
Very rare original German Fire Official´s Dagger about 1870!!!!!!!!!This early produced Fire Official's Dirk is approximately 19,65 inches (50 cm) long. The dirk has a round pommel, which is identical to the style used on Naval dirks of this era except that it is of all nickel construction. The pommel depicts reeds and cattails which are all nicely hand-enhanced, and rests over a series of cascading waves. There is little wear to this pommel. The ferrule is a standard type, having to raised raised lines that run around the circumference. The center block has a raised area. The quillon arms come outward from the block. The grip of the dirk is a black color, and carved to have seven ribs. The ribs are all wrapped with twisted silver wire. This wire is just slightly larger than the rib cavities, as over the years the horn has naturally shrunk somewhat.
The scabbard consists of a thin black leather shell which is trimmed with twin line enhancement on the edges of both sides. It is sewn up the rear in the standard fashion. The mounts are constructed of matching nickel. The upper mount is quite large.
The blade of this fine dirk is 13,0 (32 cm) inches long. It is a beauty, still having all of the nickel plating throughout as well as a needle tip. It has a center ridge with double edges. The original leather blade buffer is in positioned, showing a little wear around the edges but still all there.
