Description

For your consideration is this bellbottom railroad lantern made by The Adams & Westlake Company. The lantern is embossed on the lid for Monon Route and has a last pat date from 1909. The lid was also stamped, X7166, probably in the Monon's shops in Lafayette IN. The frame is in very good condition with no extra holes and no dents or rusted out areas. There is light pitting overall. Please note that one of the straps which hold the upper globe retainer in place is short, the other secures the upper globe retainer. Also note that the upper globe retainer has a few holes, which can be seen in the photo.
The twist off bell displays well and sits flat. The metal patina matches that of the lid and cage -- these two have been together for quite some time now. The bell attaches and releases as it should and is secure when on the frame. Please note the bell has a repair made with what loojs like JB Weld. This is not visible from above as the repaired portion is between the locking collar and the fuel canister. It can be seen in the photo showing the underside od the bell.
The green globe is unmarked and most likely is a newer replacement. There is one crack from the top that is about 1.5 inches in length. The globe has a large swirl mark in the glass. The top and bottom rims are somewhat rough, so this globe has seen service somewhere.....
