You are purchasing a set of three (3) brand new precision made governor springs suitable for most Victor Victrolas, Victor Talking Machines and many His Master's Voice Gramophones that were made between about 1909 and 1929.
Many of the Victor/HMV motors made before 1909 require springs that are longer, wider, and thicker. Do not use the springs in this listing if your motor requires a different type - they will not work properly and will snap very quickly. Measure your springs/governor if you are in doubt or write to me. If you require the larger springs do not buy those listed here but please contact me through eBay and tell me the Model and Manufacture date of your Talking Machine, Victrola or HMV Gramophone. If you do not have a Victor or HMV machine please do not buy these springs unless you have verified that the size will work for your application.
Mounting screws, washers, and weights are NOT included in this purchase but are available separately.
    About Governor Springs
Governor springs should always be replaced as a complete matching set. This is why three are included for your Victor/HMV. Even if you only have one broken spring and insist that you need just one, you should replace all three at the same time. The mechanical characteristics (e.g. strength/tension) of original springs will always be different than a new spring. New springs are stronger and will necessarily have greater tension than an original that has been repetitively flexed for 90 to 100 years. Hence, mixing new and old governor springs will lead to vibration, motor noise, and unnecessary wear of the governor bearings.
These components are manufactured in my shop using dedicated equipment/tooling and fixtures that I recently designed. I have other tooling for different spring sizes, so feel free to inquire and be sure to specify the exact size you need. I recently started developing the tooling and fixtures necessary for the production of mainsprings and hope to make these available soon.
I have chosen to make springs using only the very highest quality tempered blue spring steel available. All of this material is tempered, slit and then polished at a US based factory to my specifications. Coupled with the die sets and high precision shears and punches, I can provide you with virtually burr-free parts that are the most durable, consistent and accurately made of their type. I guarantee that the springs I am providing are of the highest quality presently available. Simple components like these are among the most critical when it comes to reliable, noise-free, and vibration-free operation of a motor. Don't gamble with inferior parts. Save your time and your money by using my springs.
