Original pre-WW2 era German K98 Bayonet manufactured by E.u.F. Horster of Solingen: maker's code # 14asw; the code system was used 1934-37 to keep the maker’s identities secret. The bayonet is apparently unused with original blunt factory edge. The bayonet is about 15-1/8” / 38.4 cm overall; the blade is about 9-7/8" / 25 cm; about 90% of original gun-blue finish; the edge is blued and un-sharpened; the tip is intact; minor surface rust stain on the tip is noted for accuracy. Original bakelite grips are excellent; no contact marks on the pommel. Ricasso is stamped with the manufacturer's code 14asw on one side and serial number 237/aa on the other. The Waffenamt stamps on the bayonet’s butt and spine plane are WaA519; scabbard's tip is stamped with what looks like WaA51.. Scabbard is great

. This pre-WW2 blade numbering system of letters-and-numbers codes was used from 1934 to 1937 to keep the maker’s identities secret. German
Horster
always made an excellent quality product, even in the last months of WW2; they are famous for their high-quality German military swords and other edged weapons. Horster's bladesmith experience and expertise certainly show through the excellent quality of this bayonet.
The bayonet comes with original blued steel scabbard (non-matching serial number
4888/X
on the scabbard's throat) and an original leather frog is faintly stamped
R.B.N.D.
on the belt hanger. The frog is in great overall condition, considering the age; the leather is soft and supple; all stitching and rivets are intact; the keeper is a bit frail - the leather is dried-up. The bayonet is apparently unused with original blunt factory edge. A couple of minor surface rust stains at the tip from improper storage are noted for accuracy. Original pre-war specimens are very scarce this nice and complete.
The bayonet is about 15-1/8” / 38.4 cm overall; the blade is about 9-7/8" / 25 cm long. The blade retained about 90% of its original gun-blue finish; the edge is in as-issued condition (blued and un-sharpened); the tip is intact. Original brown bakelite grips are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The bayonet's release button is in perfect working order; no contact marks on the pommel. Ricasso is stamped with the manufacturer's code
