Description
AN OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL THIRD REICH GERMAN k98 BAYONET FROM 1944, WITH MATCHING SCABBARD AND BLADE SERIAL NUMBERS BY CARL EICKHORN, SOLINGENThis is an extremely fine Third Reich German k98 bayonet retaining virtually all of its original black finish on the blade, handle and scabbard as manufactured by Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn Solingen, Germany in 1944. The machining and finish is exactly what one might expect for late 1944, finished in black and un-messed with, as is the dent-free scabbard which shows a long weld on the edge opposite the screw that holds the throat in the top of the scabbard.
The scabbard is marked 8739X on the frog stud side and
cof44
for CARL EICKHORN 1944 on the other side of the throat. The blade of the bayonet is marked
8739X
on the right side and on the left side cof above
44
. The top of the handle is marked
WaA 519
. The handle is composed of two perfect original matching brown bakelite grips with their original hardware.
The blade has never been sharpened and has no nicks in it and all of the most minimal wear to it is from inserting it into the scabbard 78 years ago. This is by far the finest example of a 1944 Eickhorn-made Nazi combat bayonet for a k98 rifle that we have ever seen.
The bayonet is 39 cm long (15-5/16 inches) with a 25.5 cm (10-⅛ inch) blade, and weighs 443 grams (15.6 ounces). The scabbard is 27.2 cm long and weighs 163 grams (5.8 ounces), so the bayonet and scabbard together weigh 606 grams or about 1 pound 6 ounces.
Our photos show the actual Nazi bayonet offered for sale, as-is. We will ship the bayonet and scabbard in the same package but each packed separately so that we don’t have to put the bayonet in the scabbard and risk marking the blade by doing so.
