    Description

    Welcome.
    WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT IT:
This is an exceptionally beautiful turquoise and claw bracelet by the inestimable Loren Begay. The work is impeccable. The natural turquoise is astonishingly beautiful. Loren Begay uses his own distinctive stamping for the silver work which in this rare case is also overlaid in parts with 14K. The elaborate silver work including his stamped and hand cut leaves, framing the stone is beautiful. The work is done in the best Navajo tradition and several galleries that show Loren Begay's work describe him as Navajo, although Barton Wright says he was Anglo. He is certainly one of the all-time greats and one of the most collectible southwestern silversmiths.  I personally have several pieces I collected for myself and I adore his work. I'm selling all my own collection so everything will be available. I have two of his rings in my store now.
    CONDITION:
Excellent vintage, wearable and collectible condition. One hairline visible in some pics in the stone.
    MEASUREMENTS:
    •  This bracelet is signed with Loren Begay's running horse and his initials, his most known hallmark.
    •  Internal length approximately 6" silver alone, 1-1/8" gap, for a total of  7-1/8".
    •  The gorgeous top quality turquoise is 1-1/8" x 9/16".
    •  The width of the bracelet is 2-1/4" tapering to 7/16" at the terminals.
    •  Weighs a significant 93 grams.
    • The bracelet is set upon three foundation heavy wires. There are two vertical, and stamped wires on the sides and the stones and the claw are framed with various sizes of hand applied raindrops and adorned too with Loren Begay's foliate silver work, leaves that are heavily stamped and lovely. It's a great piece. Not signed for metal content but it's sterling silver with a partial gold overlay. The beautiful stone is a rich deep blue color, possibly Morenci.
    SUMMARY:
Loren Begay is one of my favorite artists. I said it before: I love his work and it's highly collectible, the best of quality. In this case the stone has a depth of color and beauty that is arrestingly gorgeous. His silver work is of the quality to honor the wonderful stone and the bracelet has a lasting beauty that is suitable for the best collections and always a joy to wear. It's hard to take your eyes off this one, it's just gorgeous! You will always be thrilled by this bracelet and might find yourself wearing it with everything as I have.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.
Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.
Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you're starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift.
