    Description

    Black Lacquer Smoking Box Vintage Asian Japan Mother-of-Pearl 12 1/2" w/ Ashtray
    This is a vintage black lacquer Asian smoking box that measures 12 1/2" x 7" x 2 1/4". The box top features mother-of-pearl inlay. The scene is a pagoda style house, tree, mountain with water and birds. There are two figures in the scene. One figure is a man with long pipe. The box holds a brass ashtray inside. The ashtray is removeable and measures 4 1/4" diameter. There are two other compartments inside...one for matches and one for cigarettes. The cigarette compartment has a lid. The lid is decorated with mother-of-pearl butterfly & flower motif. Lid measures 3 3/4" x 4 7/8". The cigarette compartment measures 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" . The matches space measures 1 5/8" x 2 1/2".  Note...there is some loss of the lacquer on the back side. See my photo showing this. This is an estate find. The original owner purchased in the 1940's in Japan on honeymoon.
