You are purchasing an Betsy McCall Doll Holiday Outfit Rare 2nd Version Box 1958 8" Vintage. This is original Betsy from 1958 and is a very hard to find outfit especially the velveteen bonnet and bolero. This listing is for the bolero, bonnet hat, dress, panties, and box.Its all original and has the correct panties with the red elastic to it. Shown on a betsy torso which is not included I just wanted to give you an idea of how the outfit will display. Please read full description.Details: No holes or tears on any of the pieces. Working snaps and the tie is long even on the hat. The velvet is good its not dried out and there is no worn out spots. The color of the panties elastic has changed to a deeper red like a bright brick and the bonnet ribbon is like a deep corral red it changes on its on from age its a normal flaw with 1950s red dyes. The threads to the snaps have also changed to a more lighter corral red. Both bonnet and bolero have fiber thread pick up from the cotton part of the outfit since it was kept together. I did not clean it off as I did not want to chance damaging it. The bolero has one pop stitch thread where the front bottom side edge connects to the back its minor and shown in picture #12. Dress and panties minor soil age pick up however neither are dingy coloring is nice on the red its not stains just like a minor pick up. The bias white trims on both pieces have some age soil spots stains which does have happen from age. The trim in areas have some minor red dye pick up from rubbing on the red and being sewn over the red see picture #7 it shows it in a close up. That happens with the red dye of the 50s its very hard to prevent that from happening especially when the white is sewn over the red. Its not super bright red spots more like a light red. The velvet has minor age soil but neither are dingy or stained up. There is a tiny spec size dirt spot stain on the hat toward the front side bottom edge shown in close ups. The back organdy snap trim has a piece of fabric sticking out inside the dress it is still attached its the one side sticking out inside. Elastic good in the panties few very minor pop stitches at the edge. Found a tiny pull thread in the pleat area of the dress.
The ribbon ties have very slight edge fray on the end and have some wrinkles from being tied no holes or tears. The ribbons are satin grosgrain not corduroy as described in Ausdalls book however Lisa Heino book properly describes it in her book. The box is missing its flaps has some small edge tears, some bends/crushes, some soil and some aging shown in the photos. The inner gold insert that holds the clothes is gone from the box. There is no shoes or socks included, one book says it included standard black shoes and socks the other does not so I am not sure which one is correct. None have an item # for holiday number 2 they say the box did not have a number on it. Since both flaps are missing I can not tell you if that is accurate are not. The outfit needs a slight pressing it does have some wrinkles. The outfit actually does not look displayed much or played with much. The majority of the flaws which are minor in my opinion look from age related or being stored such as the fiber pick up. The biggest flaw to me would be the aging soils stains on the trims most noticeable on collar and arm cuffs. However in my opinion it can be displayed with out laundering just depends on your preference. The outfit has not been cleaned or repaired. Overall a pretty displayable outfit. Pictures are taken in natural light I find it being closest to viewing it in person.
