Description
Antique Brass or possibly a Bronze alloy? Skylight Compass - Yacht Binnacle .This was made by one of the top guys at the time the base is marked :"JOHN BLISS & CO. , NEW YORK" .I'm not sure if they were the actual maker? or Chandlery of Nautical goods? I know that it is quite rare. As can be seen it either needs to have some one rebuild the top section ? or just display it as .AGE: This is an old one ,no doubt about that ! Dating back to the 1920's as the Patent date on the Compass is 1920 ! That's 104 years old .
ADDITIONAL MARKINGS: The actual internal swiveling gimballed compass is marked : "SOLD BY T.S.& J.D. NEGUS ,NEW YORK" on the center portion , the card is marked: "RITCHIE, BOSTON USA" ,the outer brass ring is stamped with a serial number: "70165" ,"PAT MAR. 2 ,1920" , "E. S. RITCHIE & SONS ,BOSTON"
Good news is that the base of the top is there and undamaged so a good ; metal machine fabrication shop could bang this out .
Hey maybe you have the top and are searching for the base ??
Let me know if you need additional measurement's or information?
SIZE: It measures at or around: 10" in diameter at the top , 9 3/4" in diameter at the bottom and 7" in height , where the the top section fits its 8 1/4" across .There are photos with a yardstick included to allow you to better see for your self the actual size .
CONDITION: Please examine the many photos I have provided and read my description which I feel is very thorough .
WARRANTY: As with everything I sell this is 100& warranted to be authentic & as described with a no questions asked return policy.
SHIPPING: I'll ship this USPS ground ,this item is fragile and with the gimballed compass it will need to be packed extremely well ( larger well padded box) so it does not get wrecked .If shipping cost is substantially less than that quoted I will refund the balance.
