Description
A greek drachme made at 1984. It is marked with the symbol of Greek Democracy and the ancient Greek hero of greek revoloution Konstantinos Kanaris!Konstantinos Kanaris of the naval struggle during the Hellenic Revolution of 1821 and later admiral and politician, who served five times as prime minister of Greece in one.
Two events illustrate the contribution of Canari as a political man in Modern Greek History: he becomes the first to complete four prime ministers (1864) from the full implementation of the Constitution in the country in 1844 (as Mavrokordatos 10 years earlier, with the first two under the Ottoman Monarchy) and basically the only prime minister to whom the House votes or revisits the Constitution of Greece twice, in 1844 and 1864 (the two dictatorial constitutions on G. Papadopoulos were not voted by Parliament - validated with t illegitimate referendums of 1968 and 1973, second last stopped automatically take effect with the fall of the Colonels).
In June 1822, after the Greek fleet failed to save Chios from the Turkish massacre, Kanaris undertook a bourlot in the flagship of Kara Ali, the head of the army who slaughtered the inhabitants and burned the island. The company would perform the fireplaces of Kanaris and Andreas Pipinou. Two factors helped in the project: on the one hand, the night was very dark as it did not have a moon and on the other hand that on the floating deck of the flagship, about 2,000 Turks celebrated Bairami, and so the guards were incomplete. The fire from the bourlot was quickly transmitted to the ship. Before the first rescue boats were removed from it, the fire arrived at the dustbin, which was blown up. As a result, the victims were too many. Among them are Admiral Kara Ali, his officers and many sailors. Pipino's pyramid approached the sub-arc but failed to destroy it. But it caused him a lot of damage.
The blowing of the Turkish flagship has been one of the most striking events of the seaside struggle, and it has made a great impression in Europe. Using today's terminology, we would say that it has greatly helped the Revolution. Both among rebellious Greeks and among Europeans, Kanaris was now a hero.
His action, of course, continued as he continued the race with greater determination. Kaklaman Pasha Mehmet was assigned a new admiral to Kara Ali. In October 1822 he flew his fleet to the Aegean to supply the Turkish fortresses to the Peloponnese and to suppress the Isle of War. Anchored to Tenedos. But on 29 October 1822, Kanaris, accompanied by Dimitrios Bratsanos, passed between the Turkish fleet and could not approach the admiral's ship, the capadana, stuck his torch at the "Rilala-Gemini" anti-flare and shook it in the air . 800 crewmen, Turks and Christian sailors serving in the Ottoman fleet were killed. Kaklaman Pasha Mehmet lifted anchor and resorted to the Hellespont with the help of a thailand winding at Chanak-Kalais.
