    Description

1945 Colorful World War II Memorial – Perfect for Framing
Offered for your consideration is a beautiful, partly-printed memorial, printed for sale to veterans and their families as a way to honor the service of those who fought the Second World War. At the top center is a spread-winged bald eagle with a ribbon in its beak, upon which is printed “
    E PLURIBUS UNUM
”, with an American shield and two furled American flags below. Immediately beneath this patriotic motif is a wreath framed oval, to be punched out and picture of the honored veteran put in its place. This is followed by a printed text which reads “
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS That ____________________________ SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AGAINST NATIONS WHICH RUTHLESSLY SOUGHT TO DESTROY THE SACRED PRINCIPLES OF AMERICAN LIBERTY, JUSTICE AND EQUALITY
”. It further states that “
THEREFORE, WHEREAS THE ABOVE PERSON WAS DULY INSTRUMENTAL IN THE PRESERVING OF THESE INALIENABLE RIGHTS, FOR WHICH OUR FOREBEARS AND THOSE OF THIS WAR DID NOT DIE IN VAIN – BE IT HERE KNOWN THAT THIAS NAME IS FOREVER GLORIOUSLY INSCRIBED UPON AMERICA’S HONOR ROLL OF HEROIC DEFENDERS AND WILL – THROUGH THE GRACE OF GOD, IN WHOM WE TRUST – BE HANDED DOWN TO POSTERITY.
”. This text is surrounded by various colorful military scenes, such as Seabees or soldiers building a road for a tank, two soldiers firing a machine gun at an aircraft, another group of soldiers firing at enemy soldiers, and surface naval vessels with a submarine. All of the foregoing elements are enclosed in a chain link border, with specialty badges depicted within each link, with the Army and Navy badges at the top, and two young men representing those branches, saluting the viewer, at the bottom. The date and printer “
    1945 A. E. G. Co.
” can be seen at the lower right. The back of the document, as expected on a piece that was intended to be framed, is blank. A great way to remember your World War II ancestor, especially since these men and women are leaving us at a rapid rate.
The presently offered item exhibits minor toning across the entire surface, imparting to the paper an off-white to beige hue (this leads to a slightly mottled appearance). The colors seem to have mellowed slightly, though colors from that era were somewhat muted when originally applied. One significant diagonal bend can be seen, principally from the back. This interesting piece measures approximately 12 x 15⅞ inches and would look great framed with a portrait of an honored soldier.
A .95 charge will be added to the winning bid for postage and insurance.
A .00 charge will be added to any item picked up in person at our physical location.
