Description
This is the doors from the VV-XVI presently listed. It is from a 1913 G that was butchered at one point to make a modern entertainment center. You can almost always tell what the original finish was by looking at the inside of a Victrola lid or the inside of the doors. This machine is no different. Out of the half dozen exotic dark oak finishes Victor offered, this looks it might be oak driftwood, but it is hard to say from the chart in the Victor Data Book. In fact, I am not sure it was even given a hard shellac coating - it might be a beeswax finish. I have an Edison console with a beeswax finish.Along the way, the outside of the doors were severely cleaned, but you can use the inside as a finish guide for restoration. I have the carcass listed, hoping somebody wants to take on restoration who knows woodworking. Its grain is cross sawn and gorgeous. If not, I am cutting it up to save the side panels. The doors have beautiful tiger grain, as beautiful as the side panels on the carcass. I will be listing the gold plated handles and other hardware shortly.
